In 2025, the Yolo County Regional Resilience Collaborative identifed "Expanding Yolo County's Tree Canopy" as one of 9 priority projects to advance before 2030. In 2026, the Collaborative is pursuing funding opportunities in partnership with Valley Clean Energy to expand tree-planting Countywide.

Existing Policy/Plan
Yolo County General Plan - Land Use and Community Character Element: Policy CO-8.1 supports the protection and enhancement of open space, vegetation, and natural resources, which contributes to cooling, shade, and reduction of urban heat impacts.
Action CO-A125 Adopt practices that encourage forestation as a means of storing carbon dioxide, including increasing the urban tree canopy, expanding riparian corridors, establishing hedge rows, and enlarging the acreage of permanent crops such as vineyards and orchards. (Policy CO8.1)
