The Yolo County Resource Conservation District (RCD) has been working with with landowners for over 30 years to provide technical assistance and access to cost-share funding through various grants to incentivize climate smart practices including implementation of more complex practices like hedgerows, native grasslands and riparian habitat.
In 2025, the RCD installed approximately 8 miles of hedgerows on farms and open space in Yolo County. RCD typically installs 3-8 miles of hedgerows per year.
Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP), the Natural Resource Conservation Service's (NRCS) flagship conservation program, provides funding to farmers, ranchers, and forest landowners integrate conservation into working lands. NRCS works one-on-one with producers to develop a conservation plan that outlines conservation practices and activities to help solve on-farm resource issues, helping producers make conservation work for them. Financial assistance for practice implementation may be available through EQIP, and some producers may even qualify for advance payment.
Additionally, the Yolo Carbon Farm Partnership, a collaborative effort by the Center for Land-Based Learning, the Carbon Cycle Institute, Yolo Land Trust, and Yolo County RCD, works to increase the pace and scale of carbon farming in Yolo County. Yolo Carbon Farming Partnership will leverage extensive local expertise across the partner entities to provide technical assistance and training to develop and implement carbon-beneficial practices in Yolo County including agroforestry practices.
