CAAP Action Description

Adopt an ordinance that would require phaseout of gas-powered landscape equipment and replace with zero-emission equipment by 2030. The ordinance development process shall evaluate means to minimize financial impacts on small landscaping businesses through funding opportunities. Equipment types historically powered by gasoline engines covered by this measure include chainsaws, chippers, lawn mowers, leaf blowers/vacuums, riding mowers, tillers, and trimmers.

Status of Implementation
Current electric maintenance equipment does not yet meet operational needs for Parks, particularly in terms of power and staff capacity for battery management. Additionally, this action falls outside Planning/Land Use authority, and while state regulations have phased out sales of gas-powered equipment, enforcement of equipment use is limited. Coordination with General Services may be explored for future County equipment transitions.
